How to Use Skanfil.no – Buyer Guide (Accurate & Verified)

This auction is conducted sequentially as an online auction, meaning that the lots are sold in numbered order – lot no. 1 must be sold before lot no. 2 goes under the hammer. Each lot has a 30-second interval. If a bid is placed during the last 30 seconds before closing, the bidding time is extended by up to 30 seconds. This means that there will always be 30 seconds from the last received bid until the lot is hammered down. To ensure that you are always synchronized with the correct time, we recommend refreshing the webpage or pressing F5.

  1. Registering an Account

To bid in auctions or purchase from the webstore at skanfil.no, you must first create a user account:

  • Visit the registration page and fill in your personal details (name, email, address, phone, etc.).
  • Set a password and confirm your email (you may receive instructions to reset password due to recent site updates). 
  • You must accept Skanfil’s purchase and sales conditions to register.

Once registered and logged in, you can bid on auctions or order from the webstore.

  1. Bidding in Online Auctions

To bid in the online auctions:

  • You must be logged in with a registered account.
  • New items are added daily and are typically open for bidding for about 10 days. 
  • Your bid starts at the listed minimum price. 
  • Skanfil adds 23 % buyer’s fee (salær) on top of the hammer price. 
  • Additional charges may apply: maritime VAT for Norwegian buyers (5.75% on marked lots) and artists’ fee on art over a certain value. For foreign buyers, a 5 % VAT equivalent is added to invoices. 
  • You can place proxy bids online — the system automatically increases your bid up to your maximum.

Note: Public and specialty auctions may have different timelines and conditions.

  1. Payment Terms
  • Payment for won lots can be made online via the website, cash on pickup, or by bank transfer according to the invoice. 
  • New customers or those without credit history may be required to pre-pay before shipping. 
  • Invoices are typically sent along with or after item collection. 
  • Non-payment within 30 days can lead to repossession of the item and collection actions.
  1. Shipping & Pickup Options

Shipping:

  • Skanfil can ship auction purchases to your chosen address.
  • Shipping costs depend on weight, size, insurance, and handling. 
  • Standard shipping is handled by Posten/Bring; large or heavy items go via Bring freight.
  • International shipping handled separately; EU shipments are processed via Skanfil Danmark with VAT handling. 

Pickup:

  • Items can be picked up at Skanfil locations. 
  • Pickup at the auction location is free; pickup at other branches carries a fee (minimum NOK 25). 
  • Combined shipments may be arranged to minimize costs if agreed before bidding.
  1. Shipping & Handling Costs

In addition to the hammer price and buyer’s fee:

  • Standard shipping + handling + insurance will be added. 
  • Minimum shipping cost is typically around NOK 50 for standard lots.
  • For large or special-handling items, an extra packing/handling fee (typically NOK 100–500) may be applied. 
  • If you request an estimated shipping cost before bidding, please provide item numbers and your address to Skanfil. 
  1. Buyer Obligations & Conditions
  • By placing a bid, you agree to Skanfil’s terms and conditions. 
  • Purchases are sold, “as is”; returns are only for significant discrepancies, typically under strict timelines (usually up to 14 days after shipment).
  • After two months from auction date, claims cannot be made against Skanfil or consignors.
